Skills We Look For

The Oregon Hazards Lab most frequently hires skilled field technicians to pursue our mission of real-time, multi-hazards monitoring. Field technicians travels across Oregon to install, maintain, and operate monitoring systems that collect scientific data to increase public safety and resiliency. We look these skills and qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Field or Equivalent Experience

Experience Installing Scientific Equipment in Remote Field Settings

Ability to Work Independently and In Teams

Comfort Working In Rugged Terrain and Adverse Weather

Experience Working with DC Power and Radio Telemetry Systems

Ability to Climb and Work on Towers Using Double-Rope Systems

Knowledge of Seismic Stations, Radio Telemetry, Networking Protocols, and Databases

Undergraduate and Graduate Positions

As part of the University of Oregon’s Department of Earth Sciences, we are committed to fostering student education and professional development. Students can apply to work with us as multi-hazards undergraduate field technicians. This position provides the opportunity to travel to some of the most unique and remote locations across Oregon to install, maintain, and operate monitoring systems that collect scientific data to increase public safety. No prior experience with relevant systems is required and all training will be provided.
