A Moment to Act: ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning and Healthcare System Resilience

May 10, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 PM PT

Virtual Workshop via Zoom

The ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) System can detect earthquakes so quickly that alerts can be delivered to people in the affected areas before they feel shaking. ShakeAlert EEW can trigger a variety of pre-programmed alerts and actions upon earthquake detection that enhance the resilience of hospitals and other healthcare facilities. This includes delivering warnings via intercom systems, opening elevator doors to prevent people from becoming trapped inside, and shutting down delicate hospital equipment to mitigate damage from shaking. ShakeAlert can save lives, prevent injuries, reduce earthquake damage to property and infrastructure, and speed the return to normal operations and community recovery.

Join industry leaders to learn how hospitals and other healthcare facilities have used ShakeAlert-powered products to enhance their resilience to earthquakes. Topics will include:

How the ShakeAlert EEW System Works

Case Studies for How Hospitals Are Using ShakeAlert Technology

How to Integrate ShakeAlert Technology  Into Your Facility

Grant Funding for ShakeAlert Installations

The workshop will include a panel from hospitals that currently use ShakeAlert EEW technology, presentations from federal and state grant program managers, and interactive discussion. This workshop is targeted toward emergency managers, facilities managers, and executive leaders within healthcare systems.

This event is hosted by the ShakeAlert Technical Users Working Group, including the University of Oregon, the U.S. Geological Survey, the California Institute of Technology, the University of California Berkeley, and the University of Washington.
